Marae Noho

Last week the whole of nui and some of wai went to Te - Poho - Rawiri te marae. Our parents had to drop us off and auntie Buba and auntie charlotte welcomed us onto the marae. We had to take off our shoes to show respect. There were carverings all over the wall that looked amazing. When every one was in the marae Papa Albey sang a song and Jonas Te - Aho took a turn specking. We sang our school song and then the told us stories about the marae.

After that we had some kai. We found out were the bathrooms were and where the dining hall is. We  got split into groups. The groups were for lots of different activities. My first rotation was walking up kaiti hill it was quite step in some parts. Next was handball and skipping I really enjoyed doing that. Ring Ring ! The bell signalled us to get our lunch boxes out. I learnt a lot about what you can do with flax. Afternoon tea yay! After that we got to have some play time. Time to set up the beds. I shared a mattress with Sarah. We had some yum nachos for dinner. We had a show we did our kapa haka bracket and lots of other things.

The next day we pakct up our belongings and went for a run. Yum bake beans on toast. It was our turn to welcome wai onto the marae. We finished off our rotations I was on string games. Then it was lunch. I love hot dogs! We had free time. Me and some other people helped the teachers to pack up so we got a juice. I enjoyed the marae.

Save Our Oceans, Save Our Lives

In week ten we have speech competitions. My speech is about oceans and climate change. The time has to be between 2.30 and 3.00 minutes. Our inquiry topic is hauora (Well being) and our speech has to link into it. We have to have three main points an introduction and a conclusion.

In our writing workshops we are working on our speeches and the teachers are teaching us lots of different ways to write sentence so that you don't get bored. Last year I got into the speech semi finals. This year you say your speech to the class and the teachers rate you and the highest score goes into the finals.

Doulingo

Last week we got introduced to a site called duolingo. The site is about learning languages. There is a range of different languages that you can learn. I am learning Russian lots of people say it is the hardest but it isn't that hard.

Our class has to do 10 minutes a day. You have a range of different badges. Once you have learnt a bit of the language that you are learning you will get asked to say something in the language that you are learning. Eto means this is. I really enjoy doing duolingo.
