Fabulous Term 4!

This term has been a very good term. It was action packed with athletics, Kapa Haka and the year six orientation day. With all that there has hardly been any time in our class. All of these things were great but sadly I was sick for the Road Patrols day at the Olympic Pools.

Athletics was great but took a very long time because all of the school participated in the sprints/running, from the year 0 to the year 6s. I think that I did good in my races I got 2nd in my heat for 100 meters and 5th in the final then in 200 meters I got 3rd in my race so I didn't get into the finals. Then we went on to the field events. Wai/ year 012 and some year 3s did not do the field event because they were to little. All my scores would take to long to say so I won't bother. Overall athletics was great.

Kapa Haka was great I think that everyone tried their hardest. We were all nervous but exited at the same time as we walked on to the creaky stage. We sang through our songs very well I think. Especially seeing as were where in a building with microphones and the room echoed, it made it extra loud. In the end we all did a great job I think. Here is a link to my Kapa Haka blog post.

Orientation day was amazing, I went to Ilminster. The centre that I went in was exel because it has a little bit of everything so that you won't get bored. We had some time in our centres our centre did ice breaker bingo which is where you get to find people that have the same interests and things like that. Then we had morning tea. we did some inquiry and then we got to have a barbecue and swim in there school pool. I really enjoyed that day. There are no photos because the teachers didn't come.

Overall term four has been great and it is my last term at Wainui Beach School. I hope that intermediate is great as well. It was a great last term to finish on I think.

Kapa Haka Festival!

Chatters spread as we hop off the bus at the showgrounds. It was Wednesday the 20th of November 2019. We were going to the Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival our whole school was doing the kapa haka. Everyone was buzzing with excitement and nerves. We went into a huge hall to watch Wai. We got told to be quiet. After Wai had finished we went outside to get the piupius on for the front row. The moko kauae and black lipstick was getting irritating. We tiptoed over some sharp little stones to get next to the stage.

"Please welcome up Wainui Beach School!" We walked up onto the stage. Kamo the kaea shouts. Our first song goes by in a blur and we are already onto haramai a paoa. The crowd applauds us as we finish our song. Ka pioioi Toho aroha haukainga e hoki mai ra. Yay the poi I thought in my head, because it is one of my favourites. Remember to smile I thought to myself as we started Utiana. Kaimo He! The haka had started. Two more songs I thought, Wainui e and then He Honore. As we went off the stage all the audience exploded into an applause. We all did it to show what we can do.

"Kai Pai everyone! You can go to your parents quickly if you want."  I went over to my mum she took a photo of me and my brother and then me and Sarah. Then I went over to my dad. Me and some other girls got a photo altogether. Then we got the bus back to school. I felt like we had done our best.

Marae Noho

Last week the whole of nui and some of wai went to Te - Poho - Rawiri te marae. Our parents had to drop us off and auntie Buba and auntie charlotte welcomed us onto the marae. We had to take off our shoes to show respect. There were carverings all over the wall that looked amazing. When every one was in the marae Papa Albey sang a song and Jonas Te - Aho took a turn specking. We sang our school song and then the told us stories about the marae.

After that we had some kai. We found out were the bathrooms were and where the dining hall is. We  got split into groups. The groups were for lots of different activities. My first rotation was walking up kaiti hill it was quite step in some parts. Next was handball and skipping I really enjoyed doing that. Ring Ring ! The bell signalled us to get our lunch boxes out. I learnt a lot about what you can do with flax. Afternoon tea yay! After that we got to have some play time. Time to set up the beds. I shared a mattress with Sarah. We had some yum nachos for dinner. We had a show we did our kapa haka bracket and lots of other things.

The next day we pakct up our belongings and went for a run. Yum bake beans on toast. It was our turn to welcome wai onto the marae. We finished off our rotations I was on string games. Then it was lunch. I love hot dogs! We had free time. Me and some other people helped the teachers to pack up so we got a juice. I enjoyed the marae.

Save Our Oceans, Save Our Lives

In week ten we have speech competitions. My speech is about oceans and climate change. The time has to be between 2.30 and 3.00 minutes. Our inquiry topic is hauora (Well being) and our speech has to link into it. We have to have three main points an introduction and a conclusion.

In our writing workshops we are working on our speeches and the teachers are teaching us lots of different ways to write sentence so that you don't get bored. Last year I got into the speech semi finals. This year you say your speech to the class and the teachers rate you and the highest score goes into the finals.

Doulingo

Last week we got introduced to a site called duolingo. The site is about learning languages. There is a range of different languages that you can learn. I am learning Russian lots of people say it is the hardest but it isn't that hard.

Our class has to do 10 minutes a day. You have a range of different badges. Once you have learnt a bit of the language that you are learning you will get asked to say something in the language that you are learning. Eto means this is. I really enjoy doing duolingo.

Escape From Kraznir

In our writing group we have been doing something called Escape From Kraznir. Our teacher has set slides on what to do on what days. Instead of doing quick writes we have to do Kraznir. We have to complete it by the end of this term. I am up to chapter 2. On different days we do different things.

On our first day we have to escape from the castle with the chest and start your way down what ever path you chose. On the second day you choose what you want to fight. There are more days but it will take to long to explain.

I enjoyed doing it for the first chapter and then it got a bit less fun.

Cross Country

Today was our real cross country day. My competition was Nellie, Miriam and Ruby but there are three other very fast people though. I got seventh overall out of 18 including myself. Our whole school went down to the course.

The year 6s have to go first because we have to longest race. It goes girls then boys though.
Everyone cheers including the parents when you run past them. Once I had finished I felt like I could hardly breathe.

At the end of the race everyone was so happy because cross country was over. I was glad that we were first because then it was over and done with. Here is a photo.
